We are an educational farm at the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind. A hub for garden-based education for students, teachers, and the community.
Our story started when the Allegheny Mountain School teamed up with the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) to create an educational farm on the VSDB campus. Our mission is to empower people to use gardens as educational spaces. We hope to provide students with a living classroom in the garden, to give teachers the tools and resources to learn and inspire classes with nature while meeting standards of learning, and to offer opportunities for the Staunton/Augusta community to be involved in workshops and other hands-on learning activities. Not to mention, supplying the cafeteria with fresh veggies. Needless to say, we have lots of work to do, but are extremely excited to develop the project!
VSDB Educational Farm is a project of VSDB and the Allegheny Mountain School (AMS.) AMS is a fully funded intensive fellowship program that focuses on building community through strengthening local food systems.
